Tempo by Alavna
A little help, when you need it.
Tempo is in pre-release testing. This guide covers the Chrome extension and native Mac app; public store downloads are not available yet.
Start with one thing
Choose a task, press Start, and take a break when the session ends. Focus and break durations are adjustable in Preferences. The next session always waits for you.
Keep the timer in view
In Chrome, open Mini timer from the full workspace and leave that tab open. On Mac, drag the header or countdown, choose Large, Medium, or Mini in Appearance, and use the pin to keep it above other windows. The menu-bar timer brings a hidden window back.
Make it yours
Large and Medium can show focus reminders or a personal motto. Click the note on the timer or open Preferences → Appearance to change it. Leaving the motto empty uses reminders.
Share one timer with Chrome
- Keep Tempo for Mac open. In Preferences → Chrome, enable Chrome sharing.
- Copy the pairing code. In Tempo for Chrome, open Preferences → Connect Mac app and paste it.
- Choose the current timer to keep. Completed histories and tasks from both apps are combined.
The connection stays on this computer. Turn sharing off to revoke the code. Keep the Mac app running while paired; hiding the timer is fine.
Connection paused?
Open Tempo for Mac, check that Chrome sharing is on, and quit other copies of Tempo. If you turned sharing off, copy a fresh code and reconnect. Chrome keeps the last saved view while the Mac is unavailable and blocks changes until it reconnects. Explicitly disconnect in Chrome to use a separate timer again.
Where is my history?
Your data stays on this device. Export history from Preferences before uninstalling or changing computers. The latest 5,000 completed focus sessions are retained. There is no cloud account or automatic cloud backup.
Sleep can delay a completion notice. When Tempo next runs, it recovers the elapsed session once; it never creates a chain of unattended sessions.
